Lake Durango Water Authority Rate Relief Program

If you need help understanding this form, please contact Matt Nesbit 970-247-4062

Lake Durango Water Authority (LDWA) offers limited financial assistance to qualified low income homeowners. This assistance is intended to partially mitigate the impact of the 2009 acquisition costs.

Eligibility Criteria

The following criteria must be met:

  • Applicant owns and occupies the home which receives water service from LDWA.

  • Applicant must submit a confidential application accompanied by required proof of income ( most recent years tax return or proof of income). If the applicant is not required to submit tax returns, they must submit proof of income and their cover letter should state the reason they are not required to submit tax returns.

  • Applicant must submit a confidential request letter stating his or her reason for applying and explaining any extraordinary circumstances.

  • Eligibility is determined by income guidelines and family size. The La Plata County Social Services 2017 standard for eligibility for Food Stamps is used to determine eligibility. Income guidelines may be found on the application. The value of the homeowner’s property will be considered by the subcommittee but will not necessarily make the applicant ineligible. The request letter should include information regarding reasons for applying and any extraordinary circumstances.

Application Process

  1. Applications may be printed here from the website or may be picked up at the LDWA office (667 South Lakeside Dr

    , Durango, CO)

  2. Application and supporting proof of income should be returned to the LDWA office or mail box (P.O Box 657 Durango, 81302) by the deadline of March 1, 2012.

  3. All complete applications will be considered by a subcommittee of the Board of Directors in a single meeting in March.

  4. The limited amount of assistance available will be distributed based on eligibility and need.

  5. Awarded assistance will be provided as an adjustment to the water bill (whether billed by LDWA, DW1 or DW2) for the remainder of 2012. The maximum assistance award will be $15 per month but may be less depending on the number and need of the applicants.

  6. If more homeowners are eligible than can be accommodated by the annual budgeted amount a waiting list will be maintained. If a homeowner no longer receives assistance for any reason a new homeowner may be notified of their eligibility mid-year based on the position on the waiting list.

  7. The application process must be completed annually. Recipients are responsible for submitting a new application each year. The only notice given will be the annual notification received in the January billing. Applications may be accepted mid-year but will not be considered until the annual eligibility determination meeting in March.

Confidentiality
All information submitted by applicants will be kept confidential and will be stored securely per federal and state requirements.
